Using the SiteDesk
What is SiteDesk?
SiteDesk is a portable laptop work platform for site engineers.
It protects your laptop in transit and gives you a stable place to work when there’s no desk.
Who is SiteDesk for?
It’s for engineers working on site, especially in plantrooms, panels and tight spaces where there’s nowhere safe to put a laptop.
Why use SiteDesk instead of putting my laptop on the floor?
Floors are dirty, uneven and risky.
SiteDesk keeps your laptop off the ground and at a usable height, so you can work properly without constantly picking it up and putting it down.
Can I use it at standing height?
Yes. That’s how most people use it. You can work standing up, move around the plant room or work area, then come straight back to your laptop.
Does SiteDesk replace a proper desk?
No. It’s for when you don’t have a desk, which is most of the time on site.
Can I leave the laptop inside the case?
Yes. Most people keep their laptop inside it full time and carry it between jobs.
Mounting and Compatibility
How does SiteDesk attach?
It uses strong magnets to fix to steel surfaces. There is also a strap included to hang it for situations where magnets are not suitable.
Will it stick to any metal surface?
No. It needs a ferrous metal surface such as steel. It won’t stick to aluminium or most stainless steel.
Will my laptop fit inside?
It fits most standard laptops used on site, max 15.6″ screen size. Check the dimensions before ordering to be sure.
Safety and Use
Is SiteDesk safe to use with a laptop?
Yes, as long as it is fixed properly. Always check it is secure before letting go.
Is there anything to stop the laptop sliding off?
Yes. There is a retaining elastic strap that holds the laptop in place while you are working.
Its there as added security, especially if you are moving around or working at height. You should still make sure the SiteDesk itself is securely fixed before using it.
Can it damage painted panels or surfaces?
The magnets have a rubber coating, but care should be taking at all times. Place it carefully and remove it carefully rather than sliding it.
How much weight can it hold?
It is designed for a laptop and light items only. It is not meant to carry tools or heavy equipment.
Can I use it on live electrical panels?
Only if it is safe to do so. Follow, local laws, site rules and use your own judgement.
Is it suitable for every site?
No. You need to decide if the surface and location are safe before using it.
Is SiteDesk safe to use with a laptop?
Yes, as long as it is used correctly. Always check it is securely fixed before letting go.
SiteDesk uses strong magnets, but modern laptops use solid state drives which are not affected.
Product Limits
Is it waterproof?
No. It is not waterproof and should be kept away from water and wet surfaces.

Common Questions Before Buying
Do I actually need this?
If you are working on site with a laptop and don’t have a proper desk, this solves a real problem. If you already have a stable place to work every time, you probably don’t need it.
Is it worth the money?
If you only use your laptop occasionally on site, probably not. If you are on it all day, moving between panels and plant, it saves time and reduces hassle straight away.
I have worked this way on site for over 10 years. Once you get used to it, you don’t go back.
Are the magnets strong enough?
They are designed for normal site use on solid steel surfaces.
I have used this daily on plantroom doors and panels. On solid steel it holds properly, but you should still check it before letting go.
Will it fall off or slide in use?
Not if it is used properly on a suitable surface. Poor contact will reduce holding strength. I have used it where only to top two magnets can make contact. But using it with only the top two magnets is at your own risk. Always attach the safety strap for extra protection.
What if there is no metal surface?
Use the strap.
Most of the time there is something steel nearby. The strap is there for the situations where there isn’t and for extra protection.
Will it damage my laptop?
No. It supports the laptop rather than stressing it.
I have damaged laptops in the past leaving them on the floor. They get stood on, kicked or cables get pulled. That is what this avoids.
Is it just a case with magnets stuck on?
No. It has been developed around how engineers actually work on site, by an BMS engineer, for engineers. It is quick to set up, stable enough to use and easy to carry all day.
This has come from years of real use on site, not just theory.
Why not just use a normal laptop bag?
A bag protects your laptop when you are moving. It does not give you anywhere to work when you work on site.
Why not just find somewhere to put the laptop?
Sometimes you can. A lot of the time you end up balancing it on something that is not really suitable.
Panel door openings, filter boxes and cable drums all work until they don’t. Also, a painful back and knees are no fun when trying to work.
